City Creek High-rise Redesign

City Creek

The City Creek design tackled the interesting challenge of overcoming the significant restrictions that come with combining two units in an existing downtown Salt Lake City high-rise into one expansive living space. Despite being limited in what we were able to alter and what we weren’t allowed to touch due to most utilities running continuously vertically through the building and substantial fire code restrictions, we were able to achieve an open and inviting floor plan that embraced these constraints.

In following the natural views from the units, we opened up the flow to improve the sightlines and increase the amount of natural daylight throughout. The new modern space included a state-of-the-art kitchen, an upgraded primary bedroom and bathroom suite, additional storage and a designated exercise area with a downtown view. Unique interior materials and furnishings –such as custom lighting accents and detailing in the kitchen and a Murphy bed in the office – add character to clean, contemporary design and wood ceilings provide a warming contrast to new exposed concrete structural components.

It took great intent and collaboration between our team, the interior designer, the builder and the client to execute the design and achieve the desired results. The improvements from the existing units to the new, completed living space cannot be overstated.
